Turkish, Iranian forces attack PKK bases in Iraq

Today's Zaman, a Turkish newspaper today had some very disturbing news. It's a short story with no accompanying picture, so I'll import the entire article.

Turkish and Iranian artillery shelled areas in northern Iraq used by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and its Iranian offshoot, Iraqi Kurdish reports said yesterday.

Turkish artillery units shelled the Nihel and Rekan border area in addition to Spendar and Betkar in the Barwary Bala area, Pukmedia, a Web site affiliated with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani's Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) reported yesterday, citing a local source. The shelling continued until 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning and no casualties were reported, Pukmedia said.

Iran, which is fighting the PKK's Iranian wing, the Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan (PJAK), also shelled three border towns in northern Iraq where PJAK members are believed to be operating, an Iraqi Kurdish official said yesterday.

Here's the link in case you want to see for yourself. Just what we need, Iran sticking their nose into the mess!
